Brief Summary / Interesting Facts/ Interesting Destinations: Air New Zealand began business in 1940 from a company known as TEAL, Tasman Empire Airways Limited, operating trans-Tasman flights between New Zealand and Australia. In 1965, the New Zealand Government took full ownership of TEAL and rebranded the airline as Air New Zealand. Air New Zealand became a Star Alliance member in 1999. Air New Zealand is New Zealand's largest international and domestic airline. Air New Zealand is rated by Skytrax as a 4 star airline. In 2009, Air New Zealand was recognised by Skytrax as having the Best Cabin Staff Australia / New Zealand Region as well as being rated eighth overall for Airline of the Year. The Air New Zealand fleet of aircraft are fitted out with 3 classes, depending on the route. These include Pacific Economy, Pacific Premium Economy and either Business or Business Premier class (Business Premier class seats have replaced First Class seats on some routes).
