Brief Summary / Interesting Facts/ Interesting Destinations Etihad Airways was established in July 2003 as the national airline of the United Arab Emirates by a royal decree issued and launched with a ceremonial flight to Al Ain in November 2003. A few days later Etihad started commercial operations with the launch of services to Beirut and in the months that followed, added almost one new route per month. Etihad Airways serves 57 destinations in 42 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania and has to date carried over 17 million guests. It has one of the youngest and most environmentally-friendly aircraft fleets, with an average age of three years. Etihad Airways has won more than 40 global awards for service and innovation including Best Business Class at the 2009 Skytrax awards and is currently rated as a 4 star airline by Skytrax. The Etihad Airways fleet of aircraft are fitted out with 3 classes, depending on the route, including Coral Zone (economy), Pearl Zone (business) and Diamond Zone (first) class.
