Brief Summary / Interesting Facts/ Interesting Destinations:

Lufthansa was originally formed from a merger between Junkers Luftverkehr and Deutsche Aero Lloyd (DAL) in 1926. The airline's name was changed to Lufthansa in 1933.

In spite of Lufthansa's services being suspended after World War II, the airline was re-established in 1954. Since then Lufthansa has acquired a number of airlines and today, in terms of overall passengers carried, Lufthansa is Europe's largest airline and the world's fifth-largest airline. Lufthansa also operates other subsidiaries including Austrian Airlines, British Midland Airways, Swiss International Air Lines and low cost carriers Eurowings, Jetblue and Germanwings.

In 1997, Lufthansa became a founding member of the Star Alliance network, the world's first and currently biggest airlines cooperation. The Lufthansa fleet of aircraft is comprised of aircraft of almost every size, each using state-of-the-art technology. The fleet of aircraft are fitted out with 3 classes, including economy, business and first class. Lufthansa have ordered 15 of the Airbus A380-800 Super Jumbos, to add to their ever expanding fleet. Lufthansa is rated by Skytrax as a 4 star airline
