Description: Boracay is located south of the Manila, at the northwest tip of Panay Island, in the Western Visayas of the Philippines. The island is only 7 kilometers in length and covers a total of 10.32 square kilometers. The island has two main beach one on with side of the island as well as an 18 hole golf course to the north. The climate of Boracay is humid subtropical with moderate temperatures and very little rainfall, followed by hot and humid summers with frequent heavy rainfall. The island was originally inhabited by a local tribe called the 'Ati'. It wasn't till the 1970s that tourism began to develop in Boracay, with the island becoming more popular with backpackers in the 1980's. Years ago, Boracay Island was a well-guarded secret, almost possessively so that only a few knew of its existence. Due to the geographical location of the island as well as the wind and weather patterns Boracay's tourist beaches become more popular in the winter season. The shelter from the mountains and coral arch makes the western white beach very smooth and calm while the north and south are rather windy and make it an ideal destination for windsurfers and kite borders.
